Great history lesson...

I didn't start developing mobile software until the iPhone came out, and even then didn't get on the bandwagon until early this year. So I'm not personally aware of the early days of mobile development and product distribution. The history lesson was enlightening.

I've always had the mindset that it's Apple's App Store and they can run it as they see fit. But more importantly, regardless of the hassles of having to use the App Store it provides way more benefits than hindrances - at least for me. I can’t imagine what it would cost me to setup and then maintain an ecommerce system that guaranteed a secure payment and delivery system. The hosting and equipment costs alone could be thousands of dollars. On top of that I'm not a network/systems engineer so I'd more than likely at some point have to hire a contractor to fix something that broke. Because of the App Store I don’t have to worry about any of those things, which means that I have more time to focus on developing and marketing my products.
